Obituary For David Lee Wilson

David Lee Wilson, 67, of Independence, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at Hospice Care of St. Elizabeth in Edgewood, Kentucky, surrounded by his loving family.

David was born on June 9, 1959, in Louisville, Kentucky, and graduated from Simon Kenton High School in 1978. From a young age, David had a love for cars that stayed with him throughout his entire life. Whether it had four wheels or two, David was interested. He was officially on his 60th car and could often be found in his state-of-the-art garage working on one of his many projects. His favorite was his 1964 Chevy Impala Black Convertible, and over the years he rebuilt three or four Corvettes.

David enjoyed sharing his love of cars with his son, Korey. The two enjoyed watching NASCAR together before moving on to drag racing, until the family decided it was just a little too loud. David was also a loyal University of Kentucky and Green Bay Packers fan.

Music was another big part of David’s life. He loved classic rock and attended countless concerts with his friends over the years. From 1978 to 2026, he and his friends went to thousands of concerts, making many wonderful memories along the way. Some of his favorites included The Eagles, Bob Seger, Collective Soul, and Joe Bonamassa, whom David was fortunate enough to meet.

David met Charlene Sharp through a mutual friend on June 18, 2000. They were married on July 4, 2004, and shared 22 years together. David loved taking care of Charlene and their home and property. After retiring from the United States Postal Service, where he worked for 24 years, he especially enjoyed cutting the grass and keeping busy around the property.

David was especially fond of his grandsons, Hunter & Carson. Family was important to him, but so were his many friendships. He had a special friendship with Kevin Brinkman, his best friend and “brother from another mother.” Their friendship was built on years of memories, laughter, and a bond that David knew would never end.

David believed in helping others and was a member of the “Good Guy’s Club,” which helped people in need. He was also a proud member of the Sons of the American Legion Post 277, where he served as Co-Commander for the last couple of years. He truly enjoyed his time with the Legion and the people he met through it.

David was a Christian and will be remembered for his love of cars, music, family, friends, and the simple enjoyment of staying busy and doing the things he loved. He had a way of staying connected to people throughout his life, and many of those friendships remained important to him over the years.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Jackie Wilson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Charlene Wilson (nee Sharp); his son, Korey Wilson; step-daughter, Jennifer (Brad) Rodger; step-son, David (Katie) Sumner; and his beloved grandsons, Hunter and Carson.

A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Linnemann Funeral Homes in Erlanger, Kentucky. A celebration of David’s life will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sons of the American Legion Post 277, 415 Jones Rd., Walton, KY 41094, or The Good Guy Club of KY, 32 Catalina Dr., Walton, KY 41094.
