Obituary For Dexter Smith
Dexter Smith, 87 of Mentor, KY, passed away on June 9, 2026. He was the son of Sherman and Bessie (Bowling) Smith born on February 23, 1939.
Dexter proudly served in the United States Army, and he had worked as an Insurance Adjuster and Manager for Motorist Mutual. Dexter enjoyed fishing in Lake Okeechobee, and loved deer hunting. But Dexter’s greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandkids and great grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carolyn Smith in 2018 and sisters; Shirley Houp and Gladys Gearding.
He is survived by his daughter Debbie (Nick) Chaplain and son Doug Smith, grandchildren Allie (Cody) Foster and Garrett (Taylor) Brossart and great-grandchildren Caroline and Avery.
A visitation will be held at Cooper Funeral Home in Alexandia on Friday June 12, 2026, from 10:00am - 12:00 noon. The service will begin at 12:00 noon, and the burial will immediately follow at Grandview Cemetery.
