Obituary For Don Ray Klopp

Don Ray Klopp, age 88, passed away peacefully at his home in Petersburg, Kentucky, on August 4, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born on December 1, 1937, in Petersburg, Kentucky, to Embry and Lois Klopp. Don proudly served his country in the United States Army and later dedicated more than 40 years of service to Delta Air Lines before retiring.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Jackie Klopp; his son, Dean (Sherry) Klopp; his stepson, Aaron (Anita) Caldwell; three grandchildren, Nicole (Tony) Riley, Dean Klopp Jr., and Ethan Caldwell; three great-grandchildren, Ty Riley, Jaidyn Riley, and Jayce Klopp; and his beloved dog, Axel, who was his faithful little buddy.

Don was a devoted sports enthusiast and a longtime Cincinnati Bengals season ticket holder. He loved cheering on the Cincinnati Reds and would light up every time he heard Marty Brennaman say, “This one belongs to the Reds!” He also bled blue for the Kentucky Wildcats—so much so that his urn proudly bears a UK emblem. From the comfort of his favorite recliner, he could always be heard cheering on the Wildcats and coaching them through every game.

Don also had a lifelong passion for NASCAR and local dirt track racing. He attended many NASCAR events over the years, but sprint car racing was his favorite. For many years, he and his son, Dean, made cherished memories attending the World of Outlaws races in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Now, he has taken his final checkered flag.

Don found his greatest peace on the open road astride his Harley-Davidson motorcycles. He owned many Harleys throughout his life, and the freedom of the open highway brought him immense joy. One of his favorite adventures was attending the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota. For Don, riding wasn’t just a hobby—it was the freedom of the wind, the open road, and the journey itself.

Later in life, Don could often be seen riding his golf cart through Petersburg with Axel by his side. He never missed an opportunity to stop, say hello, and share stories with his many friends and neighbors.

May the roads rise to meet you, and may the wind forever be at your back.

May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in peace.

A celebration of Don’s life will be announced at a later date.
