Obituary For Douglas W. King
Douglas W. King, 72, of Union, KY, passed away peacefully at his residence on May 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 13, 1953, in Falmouth, KY, Doug was raised in Latonia and remained proud of his Northern Kentucky roots throughout his life.
Doug was a graduate of Holmes High School and pursued further education at the University of Cincinnati, Xavier University, and Northern Kentucky University. He went on to become the proud owner of Classic Car Wash in Lawrenceburg, IN, which he operated from 1996 until his retirement in 2020.
Doug met his beloved wife, Karen, in 1985 while both were working at Champion Paper Company. Their meeting sparked a lifelong partnership built on love, humor, and shared values.
Doug was preceded in death by his mother, Jayne (Fred) Pugh; his sister, Sheila Hoskins; brother, Steve King; and brother-in-law, Gary Hardy.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karen King (née Adams); sons, Chris (Julie) King and Eric (Lindsey) King; sister, Debbie Hardy; step-sons, Jason (Liz) Dahl, Adam (Brittany) Dahl, and Jacob (Elizabeth) Dahl; and half-brother, Terry Pugh. Doug was also a proud and devoted grandfather to his grandchildren, Graham, Lucy, Ada, Millie, Eliza, Claire and Lilly.
Doug was known for his unwavering support of his children and family. He was a hands-on father, a loyal friend, and a man who lived with great passion. He loved golfing, grilling, fishing, bowling, and playing tennis. He cherished vacations with family and counted his trips to Africa, Europe and the Canadian Rockies among his favorites to recall. His and Karen’s vacation home on Fripp Island, SC was a favorite place for beauty, solace and fishing. Doug had a deep appreciation for music—especially the blues and classic rock—and counted the Allman Brothers, Moody Blues, and Marshall Tucker Band among his favorites. He was a lifelong UK Basketball fan and loved to talk player stats and chances for another national championship with his good friends.
Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
