Obituary For Earl Leroy Chanley

Earl Leroy Chanley, 93, of Ludlow, passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He lived a life of dedication, kindness, and a deep love for his family. Earl enjoyed a distinguished career, retiring as a Systems Technologist at Cincinnati Bell and later as a wheelchair attendant at Delta Airlines. His work ethic and commitment to service were evident throughout his life. A proud veteran, he served honorably in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1954 as an Aviation Machinist, showcasing his sense of duty and patriotism.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Earl made significant contributions to his community. He spent 20 years on the Ludlow Fire Department and served on the Ludlow Park Board for 15 years. Earl also dedicated his time to coaching knothole baseball for 15 years, nurturing young talent with patience and passion. As a trustee at the First Baptist Church Ludlow, he served his church community faithfully. Earl was a valued member of the Ludlow Vets for a decade, and in recognition of his service and contributions, he was honored to be the Grand Marshal in the Ludlow Memorial Day Parade in 2021.

Known for his kind and loving nature, Earl always smiled, bringing warmth and joy to those around him. He cherished the moments spent with his family, especially relishing time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life.

Earl is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Gladys Chanley; his children, Pam Birkofer, Angie (Billy) Betz, Sharon (Billy) Whiteley, Mona Eldridge, Earl "Lee" Chanley, Jr.; brother, Jackie Lynn; grandchildren, Greg Cansler, Mike Cansler, Scott Cansler, Brett Betz, Derek Betz, William Whiteley, Melanie Ernst, David Schwabe, Travis Schwabe, Kelsey Mardis; great-grandchildren, Shelby, Dylan, Natalie, Bria, Annalee, Tommy, Joey, Eli Leroy, William V, Isabella, Olivia, Owen, and Jett.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ed Chanley and Frances Lynn; his brothers, Gary and Frankie Lynn; and his grandson, Billy "BJ" Betz.

A visitation will be held on Monday, November 25, 2024, from 10:00 AM to the hour of service at 12:00 PM, all at the Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, 316 Elm Street, Ludlow, KY, 41016.

The interment will be at 2:00 PM in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North in Williamstown, Kentucky.
