Obituary For Edward Poland
Edward “Ed” Poland, age 75, of Florence, KY, decided on August 19, 2025, that he had finally earned his eternal retirement. Born in Cincinnati on April 29, 1950, to Arthur and Marie Poland, Ed spent his life working hard, reading western novels, and enjoying his hobbies. After a long and loyal career as a truck driver with the United States Postal Service, Ed hung up his keys (but not before reminding everyone he could still parallel park a rig better than most people can park a car). He proudly served his country as a U.S. Army veteran, his family as a dependable husband, dad, and papaw. Ed had passions as wide as his tool collection: classic cars, woodcarving, strumming the guitar, and, occasionally, telling stories that his grandkids pretended to believe. He loved animals – sometimes more than people – and if you couldn’t find him in the garage, you’d probably find him in the kitchen looking for something sweet to share with the dogs. He is survived by the love of his life, Mary Poland, who patiently put up with his projects, jokes, and colorful language for 55 ½ wonderful years; his children Michelle Ashley (Doug), Kim Poland (Edwin), and Jim Poland (Kelli); his grandchildren Jake, Meghan, Bryce, Blake, Austin, Eric, Chandler, Grace, and Derek; and his great-granddaughter Olivia, who shares his love of dogs. Visitation will begin at 11 AM on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at Stith Funeral Home, 7500 US 42, Florence, KY 41042 followed by the funeral service at 1 PM. Burial will be at Hebron Lutheran Cemetery in Hebron, KY, where Ed would probably want us to remind you to “check your oil and tire pressure” before you leave. In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Ed’s love for animals, please consider a memorial contribution to the Boone County Animal Shelter, 5620 Idlewild Road, Burlington, KY 41005.
