Obituary For Frances Mitchell
Frances Mitchell, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026, in Edgewood, Kentucky. She was born on March 3, 1931, in Caywood, Kentucky, to the late Nathan Irvin and Elsa Irvin (Ledford).
Frances was united in marriage to the love of her life, the late Jack Mitchell, and together they shared 74 wonderful years of marriage. Their life together was filled with love, laughter, family, and countless memories. Frances and Jack enjoyed golfing together, eating at Bob Evans, and taking their yearly family trips to Florida, where they cherished the opportunity to spend time together and make memories with those they loved.
Frances had a love for the simple things in life. She enjoyed shopping, sewing, collecting just about anything she could find, and taking incredible care of everything she owned. She especially enjoyed an ice-cold margarita or a Long Island Iced Tea. Her grandchildren will always remember her famous pancakes and, perhaps most of all, her famously long goodbyes. What started as a goodbye could turn into quite an event, and it became one of the many things her grandchildren will lovingly remember about her.
Frances was truly a ray of sunshine. She was thoughtful, honest, caring, and an all-around amazing woman. She never told a lie and always remained true to who she was. Her kindness, warmth, and genuine love for her family left an impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Mitchell; her brother, Nathan Irvin Jr.; and her sister, Yvonne J. Hannah.
Frances is survived by her son, Jeffrey A. Mitchell (Tia); grandchildren, Jeffrey A. Mitchell Jr. (Shelby), Kaci L. Sester (Joey), Ashley N. Brewer (Matthew), Samuel A. Mitchell (Kate), Ariana S. Gonzalez, Alexia N. Gonzalez, and Alia A. Gonzalez; sister, Sandra G. Middleton; and 12 great-grandchildren, who will carry her memory and the lessons she taught them for generations to come.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frances’ memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Services for Frances and Jack will be held privately for close friends and family.
