Obituary For Fred Arnold Wilson

Fred Arnold Wilson, age 92, of Union, KY, went Home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, February 6, 2026.

He was born on October 5, 1933, in Cincinnati, OH, to the late Edna Ruth and Abel Wilson. Raised in Menifee County Kentucky, Fred became the first in his family to attend the University of Kentucky. He married the love of his life and started a family, eventually serving in the United States Army. Upon his honorable discharge, he began work as a draftsman at OPW and continued his education in night school at the University of Cincinnati, eventually graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He excelled at his position at OPW, having created over 30 patents for the company. The best known is your common gas nozzle that clicks off when your tank fills. So, the next time you fill your tank, think of and thank Fred!

Fred was an amazing golfer, avid hunter and skilled woodworker but his finest quality was his strength of character. Always steadfast in his care and concern for others, especially during his wife’s extended battle with cancer. He never complained and often ignored his own health to care for her.

He loved his Lord, his beloved wife of 70 years, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with an extreme gratitude. He cherished the legacy he leaves behind.

This quiet, unassuming man, a faithful member and servant at Hebron Baptist Church, fought the good fight and finished his race well. He will be greatly missed. What a life well lived.

Fred is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Joyce Wilson.

He is survived by three loving daughters: Terri Bungenstock (Brad), Kathy Summerlin (Jeff) and Jennifer Willet (Guy); cherished grandchildren: Chase Summerlin (Sammy), Sam Summerlin (Ally), Kelsey Bungenstock, Spencer Summerlin (Jamie), Alex Willet (Laura), Abby Maddock (Brian), and Annie Willet; 6 treasured great-grandchildren: Kemper Summerlin, Daisy Maddock, Kit Summerlin, Forrest Maddock, Baker Summerlin and Kleine Summerlin; as well as his younger brother, Elmer Klaber; and many close dear friends and family members.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 12, 2026, from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM, with service at 12:00 PM at Linnemann Family Funeral Home, 1940 Burlington Pike, Burlington, KY 41005. He will be laid to rest at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North in Williamstown, KY immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
