Obituary For Gail Linda Hanrahan
Gail Hanrahan (née Hawthorne), 80, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on January 3, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Ross and Antonette Hawthorne.
Gail was the beloved wife of Michael Hanrahan for 57 years and the devoted mother of five children: Michelle (Michael) Ellwanger, Matthew Hanrahan, Stephen Hanrahan, Kevin (Mindy) Hanrahan, and Timothy (Andrea) Hanrahan.
Gail graduated from Lakota High School in 1964 and attended Bowling Green State University. While she held positions at the General Electric Credit Corporation—where she met Michael—as well as Lazarus and Procter & Gamble, Gail’s most significant and cherished work was as a full-time mother. She dedicated much of her life as a devoted homemaker, creating a warm and loving home filled with faith, kindness, and generosity, as well as serving as a Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout leader, and religious education teacher.
Known for her vibrant personality, Gail was a great storyteller and gifted in the art of exaggeration. A passionate traveler, Gail’s fondest memories included a cruise to Rome and the Greek Islands and a two-week journey through Madrid and Barcelona alongside her husband and her children and their spouses. At home, she found peace in her garden, to secure a moment of quiet from her boys, she only needed to say, “Hey boys, who wants to bring me these bags of mulch?”
She is survived by her husband, 5 children and her 9 grandchildren who filled her heart with sunshine and love: Chelsea, Kerry, Dayton, and Chatham Ellwanger; Mae, Sean, and Kate Hanrahan; and Aiden and Liam Hanrahan, her many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews and many lifelong friends.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents, Ross and Antoinette (Tsaras) Hawthorne, and her sister, Cheryl Minniear.
Visitation will be Monday, March 2, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Linnemann Funeral Home (1940 Burlington Pike, Burlington, KY). Funeral Mass will follow at 12:00 PM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church (5876 Veterans Way, Burlington, KY). Following the Mass at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery (11000 Montgomery Road, Montgomery, OH). A reception for family and friends will be held following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Freestore Foodbank, 3401 Rosenthal Way, Cincinnati, OH 45204.
