Obituary For Gary Lee Roberts
Gary Lee Roberts, 81, of Independence passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood, KY. He was a dedicated family man and a committed public servant whose life was marked by service to his community, his country, and his loved ones.
Gary proudly served in the United States Air Force, an experience that shaped his lifelong dedication to service. After his military tenure, he devoted many years working as a Clerk for the United States Postal Service, where he was known for his dependability and commitment to the community. His sense of civic duty extended beyond his career, serving as Mayor and a member of the City Council in Bromley, Kentucky.
A man of many talents and interests, Gary was a volunteer fireman and paramedic in Bromley, exemplifying courage and compassion in times of need. He shared his passion for sports and youth development as a coach for the local youth knothole baseball team. His faith was an important part of his life, and he was a member of Immanuel United Church in Bromley.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Deborah Roberts of Independence; his sons, Michael (Lacy) Roberts of Independence and Jeff (Stephanie) Roberts of New Port Richey, Florida; his daughter, Amy (Shawn) Masteller of Independence; his brothers, Ken (Gary) Roberts of Bluffton, South Carolina and Mark Roberts of Covington; his sister, Karen (Steve) Wissel of Delhi; mother, Margaret Roberts and seven grandchildren, who were the lights of his life, Jaden, Kailer, Ellie, Tigist, Ashlynn, Ben and Grayson. He was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin Roberts, and his sister, June Roberts.
The community will remember Gary not only for his public service but also for his kindness and dedication to helping others. His legacy of leadership, care, and volunteerism will continue to inspire many.
Friends and family are invited to honor his memory with a visitation on Friday, April 10, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to the hour of Service at 12:00 p.m. at Ronald B. Jones Funeral Home, located at 316 Elm Street in Ludlow, Kentucky. Burial will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 3227 Dixie Highway, Erlanger, Kentucky.
