Gene Raymond Surber, 78, of Florence, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2026. He was born in Covington, Kentucky, to his late parents, William and Dorothy Surber.

Gene leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Mary Lee Surber; his devoted sons, Chad Surber (Missy), Eric Surber (Sara), and Mark Surber (Jennifer); his cherished grandchildren, Tara, Kaitlin, Sean, Rylie, Liam, Mason, and Camden, who brought him great pride and joy; and his dear sister, Linda Novakov.

Gene proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, a service he carried with quiet honor throughout his life. Following his time in the military, he became a hardworking and respected business owner, operating Surber’s Automotive Service for many years.

A man who truly appreciated life’s simple pleasures, Gene found joy in the outdoors and treasured his time as a member of the Moonlite Hunting and Fishing Club. He was also a dedicated fan of the University of Kentucky Wildcats, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer them on.

Gene will be remembered for his love for his family, his strong work ethic, and the steady presence he provided to those around him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Stith Funeral Home, 7500 U.S. Hwy 42, Florence, Kentucky 41042, beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North in Williamstown, Kentucky.
