Obituary For Gerald A. Braun

Gerald A. Braun, 76 years of age, passed away peacefully on Thursday December 19, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Hospice Care, in Edgewood. He was the dear brother of Teri Schaar (Bob), loving father of Jason (Christi) Braun, Tracy (Shane) Harrington, and Taylor (Braun) Vandergrift, grandfather of five, and beloved uncle and great uncle to seven.

Jerry retired from Southern Glazers as a liquor sales distributor, which was his passion and made him a bourbon connoisseur. He spent his life in NKY and became the unofficial historian of Covington, Fort Wright, Park Hills, and Fort Mitchell. He loved all of the “old school” local restaurants including burgers at Herb and Thelma’s, onion rings at Greyhound Tavern, Pompillio’s (before it changed owners), and oysters at Knotty Pine on the Bayou. Keeneland and UK games with his family was heaven on earth for him - aside from Costco.

He wasn’t always a man of many words but that is because he was the best listener and confidant for his kids. Whenever we would call, he would listen before trying to fix it and show his undoubted love and support for his family.

We will carry on his love for his family, his listening ear, his shoulder to cry on, his dry whit, his love of horse racing, the Bengals, the Wildcats, and Costco. He loved his family and continues to watch over his loved ones until we meet again.

Please honor Jerry’s legacy and raise a glass of Maker’s Mark, get a butter pecan ice cream from Graeters, or hug your family tightly.

Memorial donations can be made to: St. Elizabeth Hospice Care 483 South Loop Drive, Edgewood, KY 41017.

Gerry and I were childhood friends through grade school at St John's and I was fortunate enough to have met him again last year in one of our eight grade class lunches. I have childhood memories of us going to play baseball at the field at the end of Watkins street in Covington. We played almost every day during the summer until he moved to Ft Wright. He was a great childhood friend. I am sure he will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. My sincere condolences to his family for their loss.
