Obituary For Gerald D. Mays
Gerald D. Mays, age 81, passed away peacefully at his home on June 8, 2026. Born on October 20, 1944, in Batesville, Indiana, Gerald was the son of the late Fred D. Mays and Ella Mae Mays.
He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for over 20 years, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to service, honor, and dedication. Following his military career, Gerald worked in security before enjoying a well-earned retirement.
Gerald found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed embroidery, reading, coloring books, and listening to classic country music. Some of his favorite artists included Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Elvis Presley, and Dolly Parton. He treasured time spent with family and friends and will be remembered for his quiet strength, kind heart, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his daughter, Nellie Jane Sutton; brother, Fred D. Mays; and his sister, Betty Mae Moore.
He is survived by his beloved spouse, Linda Mays; his children, Gerald D. Mays Jr., Phoebe Elizabeth Mays, and Sara Ann Reid; he is also by 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
Gerald’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
