Obituary For Jack Mitchell
Jack Mitchell, 96, of Edgewood, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026. He was born on January 8, 1930, in Caywood, Kentucky, to the late Stephen H. Mitchell and Mintie Surgener Mitchell.
Jack proudly served his country in the United States Air Force before enjoying a successful career in air freight sales. He was a hardworking man known for his kindness, dedication, and love for his family.
He shared 74 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Frances Irvin Mitchell. Together they loved traveling and spending time in Florida. Jack enjoyed golfing at Devou Park Golf Course, sharing a glass of wine with friends, and looked forward to his monthly lunches at the Greyhound Tavern and Colonial Cottage. He also treasured the annual fishing trips to Raleigh, North Carolina, with his brothers.
More than anything, Jack loved his family. His grandchildren were the joy of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brothers, Daniel B. Mitchell and Bergie Mitchell, and his sisters, Mary A. Holcomb and Lorene Witman.
He is survived by his loving wife, Frances Irvin Mitchell; his son, Jeffrey A. Mitchell (Tia); his grandchildren, Jeffrey A. Mitchell Jr. (Shelby), Kaci L. Sester (Joey), Ashley N. Brewer (Matt), Samuel A. Mitchell (Kate), Ariana S. Gonzalez, Alexia N. Gonzalez, and Alia A. Gonzalez; his brothers, James W. Mitchell, William J. Mitchell, and Robert E. Mitchell; his sister, Fern D. West; and 12 cherished great-grandchildren.
Jack will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his strong work ethic, and the many lives he touched throughout his 96 years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
