Obituary For James Bradley Drayton
James Bradley Drayton, known to most as Brad, passed away on October 10, 2026, in Florence, Kentucky, one day after his 80th birthday. He was born on October 9, 1946, in Flint, Michigan.
Brad built a distinguished career in personnel and business, marked by leadership, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to helping others. He graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in business management and continued his education through graduate courses at the University of Tennessee. He began working with Cain-Sloan Co., a division of Allied Stores Corporation, and was later recruited by Associated Dry Goods in St. Louis as director of personnel. In 1979, after relocating to Baltimore, Maryland, he became vice president of personnel for Stewart & Co. In 1983, he took on the role of vice president of personnel with Pogue's in Cincinnati. Later, he went into business for himself as Drayton and Associates, where he helped businesses find the personnel they needed. In retirement, Brad ventured to H&R Block to assist others in doing their taxes and became an Enrolled Agent, of which he was very proud.
He was very dedicated to his business and to community-based organizations, and those who knew him will remember the many qualities that made him so well loved. Brad was kind, generous, intelligent, witty, and fun, with a good sense of humor that brightened the lives of those around him. He enjoyed being able to give back to the community and was very involved in it throughout his life. One of his proudest accomplishments was joining the Rotary Club in 1987 and eventually serving as its president.
Outside of his professional and community life, Brad enjoyed bowling and played on Rotary Club bowling leagues for fun. Whether in work, service, or recreation, he brought warmth, energy, and fellowship to the people around him.
Brad is survived by Deborah Drayton née Rambert, his beloved wife of 35 years. He is also survived by his sister, Kelley Brown, and her husband, Joseph, as well as his brother-in-law, Lee Hill, several nieces and nephews and his canine companion, Dixie Girl. He leaves behind family members and friends who will remember him with affection and gratitude for the kindness and humor he shared so freely.
He was preceded in death by his father, Douglas Drayton; his mother, Bertha Drayton, née Glover; and his sister, Linda Hill née Drayton.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on October 20, 2026, at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northern Kentucky, 4350 Dixie Hwy, Erlanger, Kentucky 41018. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on October 21, 2026, at Sand Run Baptist Church Cemetery, 1327 North Bend Road, Hebron, Kentucky 41048.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Brad's name are suggested to Habitat for Humanity.
Brad’s life was defined by hard work, service, humor, and generosity. He made a lasting difference in his profession, in his community, and in the lives of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
