Obituary For Joan Strouse

Joan Strouse, 92, of Independence, KY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood, KY. Joan was born in Covington, KY, on June 5, 1934, to the late Malcolm and Edna (Johnson) Carlisle. Joan retired from Bank of Independence, now U.S. Bank, after many years of dedicated service.

Over the years, she was a member of Staffordsburg United Methodist Church, Community Family Church in Independence, and was also a founding member of Near Church in Bowling Green, KY. Joan enjoyed serving others through her work as a special education aide at Visalia Elementary School, as a counselor at New Hope Center, and as a Sunday School teacher at Staffordsburg United Methodist Church. She loved music and will be remembered for her sweet singing voice and her love of dancing the Jitterbug.

Joan also found joy in reading, completing puzzles, taking walks, and traveling with her sisters. Together, they traveled throughout the world, her favorite destinations being Israel and Mackinac Island. During the five years Joan spent at Rosedale Green, she enjoyed the friendships she made and the many wonderful people she met along the way. Above all else, Joan treasured her family. Her children and grandchildren were her absolute pride and joy and they will miss her tremendously.

Joan is survived by her children, Cheri (Mike) Olson, Tim (Kathy) Strouse, and Amy (Jim) Butler; her siblings, Beverly Linger, Sandra (Steve) Burgener, and Richard (Sandy) Carlisle; as well as her 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband, George Strouse; her son, Edward Strouse; and her sister, Barbara Comerchero.

A visitation will be held between 4 PM and 7 PM on Tuesday, September 8th at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051. Joan’s funeral service will begin at 10 AM on Wednesday, September 9th at the funeral home. Immediately following her service, Joan will be laid to rest at Independence Cemetery.
