Obituary For Joann Barker Way

Joann Barker Way, 86, of Hebron, KY, passed
away peacefully on Wednesday, October 25,
2023 at Rosedale Green in Covington, KY. She
was born September 17, 1937 in Louisville, KY
to the late Carl and Gladys Barker. Joann was a
devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and
took great pride in her family. She was a former
member of Ralph Avenue Baptist Church in
Louisville, KY.
Joann enjoyed watching sports, especially
following her sons and grandsons to their
weekly sporting events. She loved surrounding
herself with family. This was especially true
during the holiday season. Joann’s house was
festively decorated and she enjoyed cooking big
holiday meals for everyone sitting around the
dining room table. Joann loved working in the
yard, whether it was gardening or riding the
tractor cutting her lawn. She also enjoyed
playing cards with her husband, sisters, and
friends. In her younger days, Joann was an
accomplished tennis player as she competed in
the Cincinnati Leagues with her tennis friends.
Joann’s greatest joy was her grandsons. During

their elementary school years, she often picked
them up from school, watched them play for
hours in her backyard, fish on her lake, and
cooked any meal she thought they would enjoy.
Joann especially loved when the grandkids
spent the night.
She was preceded in death by her husband,
Fred H. Way Jr., her parents: Carl and Gladys
Barker, and her sister, Delores Weller. Joann is
survived by her loving sons: Greg (Janice) Way,
Brian Way, and Barry (Debra) Way, her beloved
grandchildren: Gregory (Jacquie) Way II, Austin
(Christina) Way, Brian Way II, Bradley (Tori)
Way, Andrew Way, Matthew Way, Cameron
Way, and Carson Way, her cherished great-
grandsons: Gregory Way
III “Trip”, Jackson, Jace, and Greyson Way as
well as her sister, Sharon Lewis.
A visitation will be held for Joann on Friday,
November 3, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM
at Linnemann Funeral Home, 1940 Burlington
Pike, Burlington, KY 41005. A service will be
held immediately following at 7:00 PM at the

Joann at Highland Cemetery in Fort Mitchell, KY
