Obituary For Kenneth Richard Sheanshang
Kenneth Richard Sheanshang, age 73, of Independence, KY, passed away suddenly on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at his residence.
He was a retired Union Iron Worker with Local 44 and a devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Taylor Mill, KY. After retirement, he also worked part-time as a custodian for Kenton County Schools.
Ken was an avid sports enthusiast and a talented athlete in his younger years, excelling in both baseball and basketball at Bishop Brossart High School. He graduated in 1970 and is a member of the school’s "500 Points Club" with 884 career points scored.
After graduating, he was contacted by the Pittsburgh Pirates for a tryout, but ultimately chose to pursue a lifelong career as an Iron Worker. Even when he was no longer playing, Ken’s love of sports never faded, and he faithfully followed U.K. basketball, the Cincinnati Reds, and the Cincinnati Bengals.
Ken was also an excellent dancer! It was one of the ways he originally captured his wife’s heart.
In his later years, Ken found great enjoyment in golfing (and collecting golf balls), woodworking, decorating for Christmas, and, most importantly, spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Rosella Enzweiler Sheanshang; his son-in-law, Jeremy Hurm; and his nephews, Michael Sheanshang and Brandon Barnes.
Ken is lovingly survived by his wife of over 40 years, Debbie Cahill Sheanshang; his daughter, Kelly Hurm; his siblings, Larry Sheanshang (Kathy), Michael Sheanshang (Laura), and Barbara Ruschman (Steve); his cherished granddaughter, Chloe Hurm; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with the Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 7:00 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 3285 Taylor Mill Road, Taylor Mill, KY 41015.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Yung Family Cancer Center, St. Elizabeth Medical Center, 1 Medical Village Drive, Edgewood, KY 41017.
