Obituary For Konstantinos "Gus" Psaros

Konstantinos “Gus” Psaros, age 91, beloved husband of 55 years to Eleni, peacefully entered the presence of the Lord on November 22, 2024. Gus was born on the island of Chios, Greece, in the small village of Nocho Kipo and raised in the village of Agios Georgios Sikousis. A proud Hioti, he left his beloved village to serve in the Merchant Marines at the age of 17 years old followed by serving in the Greek Navy.

Gus came to Kentucky in 1963 to find the American Dream for a better future for himself. He returned to Greece in 1969 to marry his wife, Eleni, and bring her back to his new American home. They then began their road as a family together with the birth of their daughter, Toula. With little money in his pocket, he worked hard and was eventually able to open his own business as a bar owner in Northside.

Small in stature, but mighty in strength, Gus was also affectionately known as “Popeye.” From painting ships to building special projects, his skillset was self-taught and he meticulously approached every problem with a solution. No tree branch was too high for him to climb and cut; no tools were left unturned in his workshop. For those who knew him well, a glass of ouzo was never too far out of his reach.

His truest joy was being with his family as a devoted husband, a wonderful father, and a loving Pappou to his three grandchildren: Konstantinos, Georgia, and Nikos. An enthusiastic storyteller of his travels and teacher of life skills, he was committed to helping raise his grandchildren with his unconditional love by imparting his knowledge of the Greek faith, culture, and tradition.

Gus is survived by his wife, Eleni, his daughter Stamatia (Toula) and son in-law Steve, and the lights of his life, his grandchildren: Konstantinos, Georgia, and Nikos. In addition, he is survived by his sister-in-laws, Despina (George) Ntoulou and Vasilia Salagara, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins in Greece and the United States.

Gus was the youngest of three children born to Stamatia and Nikolaos Psaros in 1933. He is preceded in death by his parents, older sisters Marianthi and Kyriaki, and his beloved nephew, John P. Nictas.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 2, from 10:00-11:00 a.m., followed immediately by the funeral service at Holy-Trinity St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church on 7000 Winton Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45224. Grave site service will be held at St. John’s Cemetery, 1 St. John’s Road, Fort Mitchell, Kentucky 41011. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Holy-Trinity St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church or Hospice Care of St. Elizabeth in Kentucky.

May his memory be eternal.
