Obituary For Laverne Elizabeth Hoppenjans

Laverne Elizabeth Hoppenjans (nee: Koch), 97, of Edgewood, beloved wife of the late Paul C. Hoppenjans Sr., a devoted mother and community member, passed away on October 18, 2025, at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood, Kentucky. Born on June 12, 1928, in Covington, Kentucky, she lived a life rich in faith, family, and music, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her.

Laverne was a retired realtor with West Shell Realty and was known for her dedication and commitment to her clients. Yet, beyond her professional achievements, Laverne's true joy came from her involvement in her parish community. For over fifty years, she sang with the Blessed Sacrament Church Choir, sharing her vocal talents and love for music. Her passion extended beyond the local community, as she had the distinct honor of performing with the Cincinnati May Festival Chorus at Carnegie Hall and singing at St Peter’s Basilica in Rome for Pope John Paul ll with our local Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption Choir. These are just a few of the experiences that showcased her dedication to her art.

Laverne participated actively in the Blessed Sacrament Pro-Life Committee, demonstrating her strong convictions and caring heart. Her contributions to the community reflect a lasting legacy of compassion and service. Her life was characterized by an unwavering faith in God and a deep commitment to her family. She will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is survived by her five loving children: Paul Hoppenjans Jr. (Gayle) of Virginia, William Hoppenjans (Debi) of Crescent Springs, Terry Hoppenjans (Kim) of Florence, Thomas Hoppenjans (Sharon) of Villa Hills, and Patricia Hoppenjans Wolff (Mark) of Edgewood; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, who will remember her not just as their mother and grandmother, but as a guiding light in their lives.

Laverne was preceded in death by her parents, William Koch and Eleanor (Feldkamp) Koch. Their memory lives on through the lives she touched and the love she shared.

A visitation honoring Laverne will take place at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2409 Dixie Highway, Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, on Monday, October 27, 2025, from 8:00 AM to the hour of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. Interment will take place afterward in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Rosedale Green, 4250 Glenn Avenue, Covington KY 41015 or CareNet of Northern Kentucky, 7129 Price Pike, Florence, KY 41042.
