Obituary For Lawrence "Buddy" J. Holtz
Lawrence J. “Buddy” Holtz, age 77, was born on August 21, 1948, to the late Andrew and Mary “Ervin” Holtz. He passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood.
Buddy was a devoted husband, loving father, proud Pawpaw, and cherished brother. He shared 47 years of marriage with his wife, Pat, a partnership built on love, faith, and commitment. Buddy proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, a service he carried with honor throughout his life. He later retired from the Castellini Company after 37 years, where his strong work ethic and dedication were deeply valued. Following his retirement, Buddy continued to serve others by volunteering alongside his church in the food pantry for 10 years, a role that reflected his generous heart and servant spirit. A lifelong baseball fan, Buddy especially loved cheering on his beloved Cincinnati Reds.
He was known for his kind heart, steady presence, and the deep love he had for his family. The memories he created will be cherished by all who knew him.
Buddy was preceded in death by his parents as well as sisters Judy Kelley and Carol Donelan.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia “Pat” Holtz; his daughters, Tonya (Justin) Gunnels and Heather (Jason) Wells; and his treasured grandchildren, Sidney, Emili, Bella, Lilly, Hudson, and Averi, who brought him immense joy.
Buddy is also survived by his siblings, Andrea (Gary) Schulkens, Rick (Nancy) Holtz, Kenny (Tracy) Holtz, Mary Kramer, and Theresa (Carl) Mullen, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at Middendorf Funeral Home, 3312 Madison Pike, Ft. Wright, KY 41017. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the cremated remains of Buddy present in a decorative urn, followed by a prayer service at 10:30 a.m. A Celebration of Life will follow from 12:00–3:00 p.m. at the Covington Firefighters Association, 2232 Howell Street, Covington, KY 41014.
Sympathy may be expressed by memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Alzheimer’s Association.
