Obituary For Lawrence Leo Pieper
Born on the 12th of October, 1933 to Gertrude and Ernst Pieper, Larry was the third and last of three brothers. Ernie, Bob and Larry were all born within three years of each other. Larry appreciated and participated in many sports, including football, boxing and track.
After joining the Marines at the young age of eighteen for a two-year enlistment, he was educated at the bachelor’s level in Accounting from the UK Northern Extension Center of Covington and Xavier University. Drawing on his education and strong work ethic, he spent 27 years at General Motors Norwood, retiring as a valued Shift Superintendent.
In 1960, after eighteen months of courtship, Larry married Joan Redman on June 25th. This long-lasting marriage produced four children [Amy (Dan), Becky (Allen), Pam (Dana), Greg (Amy)] eleven grandchildren [Zachary, Jeremy, Katie (Tony), Harrison (Alyssa), Olivia (Alex), Thomas, Michael, Allison (Greg), Emilee (Dylan), Ethan (Elly), Evan (Ally)] and two great-children [Easton and Ivy].
Over the years, family gatherings filled with love and laughter were plentiful and he spent his happiest hours farming the Sutton Lane land—cultivating tobacco, corn, hay, and produce with Joan and their growing family by his side.
With his parents and brothers’ support, Larry was the first in his family to earn an advanced degree. He took great pride in seeing his children and grandchildren follow his example in pursuing higher education. His later years were filled with the satisfaction and pleasure of championing his grandchildren’s band and sports endeavors.
Larry leaves behind a wide circle of appreciated friends and extended family who supported and loved the Pieper family over his 92 years.
