Obituary For Lewis Richards
Lewis Richards, affectionately known as Louie, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, January 28, 2026. Lewis was born in September 19, 1938 in Covington, Kentucky, and grew up in Latonia.
His family were founding members of Rosedale Baptist Church, where his mother played the organ for many years and could always tell when he had been swimming in the Licking River by the smell of muddy river water on his hair. After graduating from Holmes High School in 1956, he joined the United States Air Force and served as a weapons mechanic for R/B‑57 bomber and reconnaissance aircraft, a strategic nuclear asset based in Europe during the Cold War.
Following his honorable discharge in 1960, Louie began a forty‑year career with the railroad (L&N eventually becoming CSX). He enjoyed helping coach little league and assisting the Boy Scouts while his son was growing up.
After his retirement he spent much of the recent years at his grandchildren’s ballgames and dance recitals. A Christian husband and father, he was married to his loving wife for nearly sixty‑three years. Lewis was a steady, faithful provider whose quiet nature, dry humor, and loyalty to both faith and family will be deeply missed.
He is preceded in death by his father Sam Richards, mother Mildred Richards, and sister Clarine Pohlman.
He is survived by his brother John (Jeanette) Richards, loving wife Gloria Richards (nee Morgan), son Steven Lewis Richards (Angela), and grandchildren Hayden (Makayla) Roberts, William Lewis Richards, Isla Richards, and Kaitlyn Richards.
He will be missed but his family will be reunited with him in eternal life.
Visitation will take place at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051 on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 from 10:30am-12pm. Service will begin at 12pm. Burial will follow at 2pm in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North, Williamstown, KY.
