Obituary For Marvin Daniel Hoerlein
Marvin Daniel Hoerlein passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026. He recently celebrated his 85th birthday surrounded by loved ones.
Marvin was the beloved husband of Freida Stephenson, whom he shared a rich and full life and the late Nancy Hoerlein (nee Nuxoll) his childhood sweetheart and the mother of his children.
He was the cherished father of Lisa (Matthew) Eckert and Deborah (Mike) Thomas; the adored Papa of 4 grandchildren; the sweet Papa of 2 great grandchildren; the loving brother of Jill Hoerlein Kremer, Gary Hoerlein and the late Jack Hoerlein; special brother-in-law of Don Kremer and Jo Ann Allgeyer Hoerlein. As well as his dear sister-in-laws, Virginia Stephenson Huff, Helen Stephenson Murdock, and Mabel Stephenson Martin. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and life-long friends.
Marvin was a butcher/grocer by profession owning his own store for 20 yrs, he was also an incredibly gifted woodworker having been known to even source, cut and dry the wood for his next project. A nature lover at heart, he could be found hiking with his equipment in tow capturing the beauty he would discover on these outings. U.K. basketball and Cincinnati Reds schedules made sure not to miss a televised game. He loved home cooked country food and was known for making his own homemade goetta, sausage, and jams.
His family was the most important thing to him, and nothing made him happier than to be with them. He never came empty-handed and was known to bring food for a crowd at gatherings which often included homemade ice cream on hot summer days.
He had lifelong treasured friendships from his years at St. Henry’s that also held a special place in his heart which he often would reminisce about while driving down Dixie Hwy, through Erlanger, KY. He was always proud to say he was a born and bred Kentuckian. And, as any Kentuckian can attest, one of his favorite pastimes would include just sitting around with his family, talking about life while sipping a bourbon over ice.
Special thanks to Dr. William L. Barrett at UCMC Barrett Cancer Center Radiation Oncology; the loving caregivers under the tutelage of Deborah Overly, RN at UCMC Barrett Cancer Center; and the staff at Bluegrass Hospice. Your expertise and gentle care will be forever remembered.
While we are heartbroken to lose our dear Dad, we take great solace in knowing he is reunited with his parents, Mareenell (Romes) and Vincent Hoerlein.
A visitation will be held on January 23, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 8461 Dixie Highway Florence, KY 41042. The funeral service will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
