Obituary For Michael Charles Herbst
Michael Charles Herbst, 77, of Alexandria, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at St. Elizabeth Edgewood from Secondary Melanoma with his family by his side on April 24, 2026, after entering the hospital on March 29th. He was born on Christmas Day in 1948 to his parents, Leslie Louis and Vera Jean (née Gosney) Herbst. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Michael proudly served in the United States Air Force and spent many years working as a machinist for Monarch, Sears, American Tools, Teledyne Precision, Louis G Freeman and Production Machine Tool Company and retired in February 2009.
In 1974, he was a member of the local softball team, The Ranch House, which won state and advanced to the World Softball Tournament held in Long Island, New York, placing 10th out of 54 teams, where the officials stopped the game and presented the Ranch House with the Sportsmanship Trophy.
In his free time, he enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and golfing. He was a member of the Bob White Club and was active in Golden Hawk’s Archery, Cantucks, and ASSEOPEA. He also cherished spending his Monday nights with the Problem Solvers of UCLA - Upper Claryville Lower Alexandria. He was an avid Red’s fan and worked as a Ticket Taker for the Cincinnati Reds.
Michael leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Barb Herbst; his daughter, Christi (Mark) Wagner; his sister, Linda (Eric) Garrison; his brother, Larry (Eva) Herbst; and his grandchildren, Conner, Charlie, Deven, and Ashton and his loyal Jack Russell, Kodi.
A visitation will be held at Cooper Funeral Home in Alexandria on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., with the service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Burial with Military Honors will take place at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at 11:00am.
A reception will follow at 1:00pm at the Creek Center Banquet Hall 13455 Alexandria Pike, Butler, KY 41006.
