Obituary For Michael George Billow
Michael George Billow, of Burlington, Kentucky, passed away on September 23, 2026, at the age of 78. He was born on April 14, 1948, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Mike lived a life defined by devotion to family, steady character, and deep appreciation for the world around him. A graduate of Elder High School, he went on to build a long and respected career with Duke Energy, where he worked for 44 years as a civil engineer and retired as a Customer Project Coordinator. He loved his work, formed lifelong friendships there, and received many awards in recognition of his skill and dedication.
At the center of Mike’s life was his family. He was a remarkably responsible man, someone others naturally turned to for advice, perspective, and strength. He was the family’s rock. Though he carried himself as a manly man, he also had a heart of gold, a pure spirit, and a childlike wonder at the world that made him unforgettable to those who knew and loved him.
Family was his greatest joy, especially his grandchildren, who changed him and softened him into the beloved Paw Paw they knew. He is survived by his daughters, Jami (Ryan Collins) Smith and Tammy Whalen. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, London Menning, Jackson Menning, Tyler Morris, and Trent Morris as well as his siblings, Joseph (Debra) Schultz, Carole (Dennis) Melchers, Thomas (Joyce) Billow, James (Sally) Schultz, Mari (Marie Zureick) Schutlz and Mark (the late Laura) Schultz.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Annette Billow-Schultz (nee Lennartz); his father, George Anthony Billow; his stepfather, Ralph Schultz; his wife, Elizabeth Billow (nee McCarty); and his brother, John Schultz. He met Liz when the children were young and stepped up in a way for which they remained deeply grateful, creating a bond of love and care that endured through the years.
He found great happiness in the outdoors and in the pursuits he loved most. Mike belonged to Dutchman’s Gun Club in Boone County, and his Dutchman’s shirts were a familiar part of his daily life. He had many guns and loved to fish and hunt. He loved nature, sports—especially football—and was also an amazing artist who appreciated music and culture. At home, he cooked most of the meals, leaving behind many recipes that his family will cherish and continue to honor for years to come.
His faith was also a constant in his life. Mike gave generously to the Catholic Church throughout his life, even until the last week, and he attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Burlington.
Michael George Billow was absolutely irreplaceable. His strength, warmth, wisdom, and presence will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Visitation will be held on October 3, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by a service at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northern Kentucky, 4350 Dixie Hwy, Erlanger, Kentucky 41018.
