Obituary For Michael William Sayers
Michael William Sayers, 83, of Alexandria, KY, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2026. He was born to Eugene “Jerry” and Louise Hill Sayers on August 1, 1942.
Michael did not take long to establish his rebellious reputation. His shenanigans were well known in the small river town of Augusta, Kentucky, and he never missed a chance to regale family and friends with his stories.
Michael proudly served his country in the United States Army, completing tours in Europe before returning home when his country needed his boots on American soil.
On May 25, 1968, he married Shirley A. Beiting in a Catholic ceremony at St. Joseph Church—a church built in part by his new father-in-law. Together, they built a life centered on family.
Michael was never one to follow the rules—and he did not, right up until the very end. When hospice estimated he had four to five days, Michael, in true form, made it four to five hours instead.
He made his mark throughout the Cincinnati region and beyond. Retiring from Cincinnati Bell at 55, Michael did what many only dream of—he turned his passion for antique firearms into something extraordinary. It was not just an income; it was a force. His deep knowledge of antiquities in this field was sought after by collectors and buyers around the world.
After the unexpected loss of his wife of 30 years in 1999, Michael found love again with Susan White. Susan brought renewed joy and laughter into his life. Over time, the family grew into something special.
Michael was never one to sit still. A deeply spiritual man, he was devoted to his parish at St. Mary’s, where he could often be found greeting fellow parishioners, ushering, and helping with fundraisers.
His commitment to philanthropy was inspired by his first wife, Shirley. Giving back became a lasting value. Michael saw firsthand the importance of supporting organizations that truly make a difference. And if that support came with a good gala and a great time, all the better—because if there was fun to be had, Michael was sure to be there.
Michael is preceded by his parents, Eugene and Louise Sayers, his brother, Eugene “Gene” Sayers, his first wife Shirley A. Beiting Sayers, his son in law James Kevin Lawrence.
Michael is survived by his wife of nearly 25 years, Susan White Sayers, his sons Todd (Lori) Sayers, Jason Sayers, his stepsons, Chris (Amber) Boots, Greg (Margy Gomez) Boots, his grandchildren Thomas Sayers, Cullen Boots, Ryland Boots, Emery Boots, and several nieces and nephews.
Michael was held in the love and light of his sons and daughter-in-law as he left this world to enter into the next adventure.
