Obituaries

Mitchell Lynn Mayes, age 80, of Newport, KY, was welcomed into the arms of his Lord on September 11, 2025. He was born in Owsley County, KY, to his parents, Andrew Jackson Jr. and Mae Arrowood.
Mitchell was employed at Micro Metal Finishing and was a proud member of the Boilermakers Union. He devoted his life to his family and his faith. A dedicated member of New Macedonia Old Regular Baptist Church, Mitchell could always be found serving his church family with love and commitment.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Amanda Mayes; his daughter, Shannon House; and his son, Tony Mayes (Jennifer). He also leaves behind his brothers, Charles Mayes and Randall Mayes; sisters, Elizabeth Amis and Myrtle Marie Bush; 4 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Betty Jean Roberts and Barbara June Smith.
Visitation will be held at Cooper Funeral Home on Monday, September 15, 2025, from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. A funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m., followed by burial at St. Stephen’s Cemetery.
