Obituary For Paula Marietta McDermott

Paula Marietta McDermott (née Tenfeld), 71, of Erlanger, Kentucky, entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 1, 2026, surrounded by the love she so freely gave throughout her life.

Paula was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Tenfeld and Dolores Reasons; her brother, Timothy Tenfeld; her nephew, Brandon Dirkes; her father-in-law, James McDermott, Sr.; her sister-in-law, Colleen McDermott; and her brother-in-law, Matthew McDermott.

She leaves behind a legacy rooted in love, devotion, and unwavering kindness. Cherishing her memory are her beloved husband of 47 years, James McDermott, Jr.; her children, Kathleen McDermott and Kevin McDermott (Morgan); and her adored grandchildren, Aidan Russell and McKenzie McDermott, who were truly the light of her life. She is also survived by her sisters, Diane Dirkes and Tina Behle (Patrick); her father, Ben Reasons; her mother-in-law, Erma McDermott; her sisters-in-law, Karen Carr and Jennifer Schneider (Christopher); and her step-siblings, Karen Latham, Marcus Reasons, Lucretia Drescher, and Velina Stone. Paula will be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, cousins, dear friends, and neighbors, all of whom held a special place in her heart.

Paula’s life was a beautiful reflection of dedication—both to her family and to her work. She devoted 42 years to St. Elizabeth Hospital, beginning at the Toddler Inn daycare and faithfully working her way up to finance manager. Her work family meant so much to her, and she formed lasting friendships along the way. A devoted member of St. Henry Catholic Church, Paula lived her faith through quiet acts of kindness, generosity, and compassion.

Her greatest joy, however, was found at home. Paula loved bringing people together, opening her home with warmth and hospitality, and creating moments that became cherished memories. Whether it was a family gathering, a holiday celebration, or simply time spent with those she loved, Paula made everyone feel welcome and cared for. She had a special gift for making life sweeter—especially with her famous brownies—and she shared a deep love for animals that reflected her gentle spirit.

Paula’s love was constant, her presence comforting, and her heart immeasurably generous. Though she will be profoundly missed, the love she gave so freely will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at St. Henry Church, 3813 Dixie Hwy, Elsmere, KY 41018, beginning at 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Erlanger, Kentucky. Stith Funeral Home is honored to serve the McDermott family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to EasterSeals Redwood at www.eastersealsredwood.org and American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
