Obituary For Richard Berger

Richard (Dick) Berger, 77 years of age, passed on Sunday May 10th, 2026, at home surrounded by loved ones and friends.

Preceded in death by his wife Janet Crowe Berger and his brother Chuck Berger. Born in Fort Mitchell to the late Thomas and Maydie Berger, survived by Son Matthew, Daughter-in-law Gay Lynn, Son Michael. Brother to Judy Collins, Cathy Wilcox, Jimmie Berger, Nancy Berger-Locke, and Lisa Pilger. Brother-in-law to Dr. David Crowe and his wife’s cousin Tim, wife Mary Haas.

Dick worked at Chas Bilz insurance for over 50 years with his family and was a member of Fort Mitchell Country Club for over 30 years. Dick was a member of the 1967 Covington Catholic basketball team that reached the state finals. He served his country in Vietnam proudly and became a member of the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame in 2021.

Dick loved to travel to his son’s baseball games, take long road trips on his motorcycle, and go on cruises with family and friends. He also enjoyed attending his great niece’s and nephews sporting events and could be seen on the sidelines cheering them on. He supported many causes including The Point and Redwood.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 13, 2026 from 4:00pm – 7:00pm at St. Johns Church, Covington. Visitation will also be held on Thursday May 14th at 10:00am with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00am. Interment will be in St. Johns Cemetery, Fort Mitchell.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to The Point, Redwood, and the Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame.

    I offer all my sympathy and prayers to the Berger Family. Dick leaves a lasting imprint on our community. My prayers will continue. I pray that all of you will be comforted with the faith that he is in the arms of our awesome God and has joined his family. Dick Maile
