Obituary For Ricky Lee Smith

Ricky Lee Smith, 67, of Burlington, passed away on May 22, 2026. Born in Covington, he was the son of the late Leonard and Tillie (Cheesman) Smith.

He attended Simon Kenton High School. Ricky was a man who never met a stranger. He loved spending time with family and friends and could strike up a conversation with anyone. He especially loved hunting when he was able and was a devoted NASCAR fan who enjoyed everything about the sport.

One of Ricky’s greatest joys was coaching his son, Daniel, in football and basketball, creating memories that would last a lifetime. He also treasured the countless phone conversations with his beloved granddaughter, Maddie, talking about anything and everything.

Among his favorite memories was a family cruise to Hawaii, where Ricky famously enjoyed one too many mai tais despite rarely drinking. Even though storms kept the ship from reaching its destination, Ricky called it the best cruise he had ever been on. By the end of the trip, he had become best friends with nearly the entire cruise crew — a true reflection of his warm and outgoing spirit.

In addition to his parents, Ricky was preceded in death by his sister, Tracy Luttrell, and his brother, Jeffery Smith.

He is survived by his ex-wife, Lisa Smith; his son, Daniel (Amy) Scroggins; his sisters, Darlene Combs, Valerie Fulks, and Charity Taulbee; his brothers, Mike Smith and Darren (Pam) Smith; and his cherished granddaughter, Madison (Tanner) Scroggins-Craddock.

Ricky will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He will be laid to rest with his precious dog, Dottie, a companion who brought him great comfort and joy.

May his memory bring laughter, warmth, and comfort to those whose lives he touched.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at Chambers and Grubbs, 45 N Main St, Walton, KY 41094 from 11am-1pm. Service will begin at 1pm. Burial will follow in Independence Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the SPCA, 11900 Conrey Road, Cincinnati, OH 45249.
