Obituary For Robert Downey

Robert “Bob” Downey passed away peacefully on September 26, 2026. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose greatest joy came from the time he spent with his family. He was a hard worker who spent his career working at the paper mill.

Outside of work, Bob enjoyed keeping busy and making the most of life. He was an avid fisherman and especially loved getting up early to fish in the morning. He was a true flea market fanatic and enjoyed going on wine tours. Bob also loved baseball and served as a coach.

He enjoyed playing cards with his family and, as those who knew him well could attest, he certainly didn’t like to lose. He also had a special place in his heart for his beloved cat, Sam.

Bob is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ellen Downey; his daughters, Susan Miller and Tracy Stachowski; son, Eric Downey; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Truman and James Downey; and his sister, May.

Bob will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery.
