Obituary For Ronald L. Schneider

Ronald Schneider of Highland Heights, Kentucky, was a man whose life was defined by service, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to the community he called home. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and lifelong public servant, Ron believed that serving others was not simply a profession, but a responsibility and a privilege.

Born and raised in Northern Kentucky, Ron’s calling to public service began with his service in the United States Navy aboard the USS America during the Gulf of Tonkin conflict. Serving as a marine mechanic and firefighter, he discovered a passion for firefighting that would shape the course of his life and leave a lasting mark on his community.

Following his military service, Ron returned home to Highland Heights, where he joined the Highland Heights Fire Department in 1968. What began as a commitment to his hometown grew into a remarkable career spanning nearly five decades. Through years of dedication, leadership, and service, Ron rose through the ranks to become Fire Chief. He played an integral role in the history and evolution of local fire protection, including the consolidation of departments that would become today’s Central Campbell Fire Department.

For Ron, firefighting was never simply about answering a call. It was about being there when someone needed help, protecting his neighbors, and giving back to the community that had given him so much.

Never a man to shy away from hard work, Ron balanced his commitment to the fire service with a 29-year career at Cincinnati Bell, where he worked as a field technician until his retirement in 1996.

But retirement was never quite Ron’s style.

In 1999, he returned to public service as Deputy Director of Emergency Management for Campbell County, continuing his lifelong mission of protecting and serving the people of Northern Kentucky. He remained dedicated to both emergency management and the fire service until 2017, when he finally retired and hung up his helmet after a lifetime spent answering the call.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ron shared a marriage of 55 years with his wife, Mary, whom he married on October 2, 1971. Together, they built a family and a life rooted in commitment, perseverance, and the values Ron held dear.

Perhaps one of his most meaningful legacies is the calling he passed on to his only son, Daniel Schneider, who followed in his father’s footsteps with a distinguished career in firefighting, serving with the Newport Fire Department and the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport Fire Department before his own retirement. Two generations of firefighters, united by a shared dedication to serving others.

Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Schneider; his son, Daniel Schneider, and daughter-in-law, Cynthia Schneider; and his five grandchildren, Aleister, Athena, Elliana, Mason, and Adaline. He also leaves behind his beloved canine companion and best friend, Rory.

Ronald Schneider’s life was one of purpose. He was a man who worked hard, served faithfully, and believed that the measure of a life was found not in what one accumulated, but in what one gave.

For nearly fifty years, when his community called, Ron answered.

His final shift has ended. His duty is complete. His legacy of service lives on.

A memorial service will be held at the Central Campbell County Fire Department, 4113 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, Kentucky on October 30, 2026 from 1:00pm until 3:00pm. Burial will follow at St. Stephens Cemetery. Fares J. Radel Funeral Home, Newport serving the family.
