Obituary For Ronald Lee Piper
Ronald “Ron” Lee Piper, 77, of Independence, KY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 12, 2026, in the comfort of his home and with his loving family by his side.
The son of the late Palmer and Mabel {Benson} Piper, Ron was born in Covington, KY, on April 14, 1948. As a young man, Ron was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam war. Like many of his generation, he answered his country’s call and fulfilled his civic obligation. Years later, he was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a cruel illness linked to the chemicals many service members were exposed to overseas. The diagnosis was a reminder that wars linger long after the fighting ends.
Ron was a hardworking man with a strong work ethic. He dedicated many years to his trade as an ironworker and retired from Iron Workers Local 44. Outside of work, Ron found peace and satisfaction in caring for his property and taking pride in maintaining the land he loved. He enjoyed spending time with his tractors and was also a car and motorcycle enthusiast.
Most importantly, Ron was a constant source of support and encouragement to his wife, children, and grandson. For 50 years, he shared an unwavering and unconditional love with his beloved wife, Neva. Becoming a grandfather brought Ron a special kind of joy. He cherished his role as “Pap” to his grandson, Cort, a title he carried with pride.
Ron will be forever missed by his wife, Neva {Finnell} Piper; children, Ryan (Chrissy) Piper and Sarah (Kyle) Wojcik; grandson, Cort Piper; brother, Jeffery Piper; and brothers-in-law, Glenn Finnell and Ira Carder.
In addition to his parents, Ron was preceded in death by his brother, Timothy Piper, and his sister, Rebecca Carder.
A visitation will be held between 4 PM and 7 PM on Monday, March 16th at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home—Independence Location. Ron’s funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, March 17th also at the funeral home. Immediately following Ron’s service, he will be laid to rest at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens where military honors will be held.
Memorial donations may be made to Always Lifting Spirits, a Greater Cincinnati charity dedicated to assisting local individuals and families battling ALS. Donations may be made online by clicking here or by mail to Always Lifting Spirits, c/o 4754 Samuel Court, Mason OH 45040.
