Obituary For Shelvie "Jean" Gray

On March 2, 2026, at the age of 89, Shelvie “Jean” Gray peacefully departed this life to be with her Lord following a brief illness.

For those who knew and loved her, her passing marks not only the loss of a dear mother, grandmother, and friend, but the homegoing of a faithful Christian woman whose life was quietly marked by devotion to God, love for her family, and kindness toward others.

Jean lived a life of steady faith and simple grace. She worked for many years at the Cincinnati department store Shillito's, where she was known for her diligence and friendly spirit. Later, she retired from the Cincinnati Woman's Club, a position she greatly enjoyed and where her warm personality made her a blessing to those around her.

More than anything else, Jean loved the Lord and cherished the fellowship of believers. She faithfully attended Full Gospel Pentecost Church of Latonia, where she found great joy in worship, prayer, and the companionship of her church family. The church was not merely a place she attended; it was a spiritual home where her faith was nurtured and where she shared in the lives of fellow believers whom she loved dearly.

Jean’s greatest earthly treasure, however, was her family. She is lovingly survived by her two sons, Jonathan Wayne Hensley and his wife Tana, and Gary David Morgan and his wife Brenda. She also had three children by marriage: Lonnie Gray, Patricia Ashcraft, and Bonnie Kania.

Her legacy continues through her seven grandchildren: Regina Marie Morgan; Jonathan Christian Hensley and his wife Rachel; Elizabeth Anne Morgan; Jeremy David Morgan and his wife Jennifer; Justin Nathan Hensley and his wife Amy; Tricia Gray; and Joseph Asher Morgan. She was also blessed with four great-grandchildren: Levi, Abby, Cora, and Jaxon, each of whom brought her great joy and pride.

Jean is also survived by her sister, Wanda Gabbard, and her brother, William Wayne Jones, and his wife, Linda, who was more like a cherished younger sister to Jean than merely a sister-in-law. She leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who will remember her with affection.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Wayne Jones and Ollie Dye Jones, whose memory she honored throughout her life; her sister, Marie Bryant; and her brother-in-law, Daymond Gabbard.

Those who knew Jean will remember her gentle spirit, her faithful heart, and the quiet strength of her Christian life. She was a woman who loved her family deeply, valued the fellowship of God’s people, and found her greatest comfort and hope in the Lord she served.

Though her presence will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her, her family rejoices in the assurance that she has now entered into the eternal presence of the Savior she trusted, where sorrow and suffering are no more. Her life leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and devotion that will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.

Visitation will be Monday, March 9th From 5:00 Pm to 8:00 Pm at Don Catchen II Allison & Rose Funeral Home, 5645 Taylor Mill Rd, Taylor Mill, Ky. 41015. The Funeral will be Tuesday, March 10th at Latonia Full Gospel Church, 4419 Decoursey Ave. Latonia, Ky. 41015 it will begin at 11:00 am and the Funeral will start at 12:00.
