Obituary For Shirley Joyce Boone

Shirley Joyce Boone, a vibrant and compassionate soul, passed away on July 27, 2025, in Edgewood, Kentucky, at the age of 78. Born on February 5, 1947, in Kenton County, Shirley was a lifelong Kentuckian who dedicated her life to her family, faith and community.

Shirley was a graduate of Dixie Heights High School. She met her husband, David, while working at The Liberty Cherry and Fruit Company in Latonia, Kentucky. They were married on September 8, 1966 at Decoursey Baptist Church.

A woman of unwavering faith, Shirley was baptized at age 7 at Decoursey Baptist Church and later became an active member of First Baptist Church of Walton. Her love for music gleamed through her beautiful voice as she sang in the church choir. Saturday nights were often filled with the joyous sound of her singing Gospel songs, a cherished tradition that brought warmth to her home.

Shirley's energetic spirit extended beyond her church activities. She loved being outdoors, finding peace and happiness in nature. She especially enjoyed her time at Kentucky Lake. She was a strong-willed, fun-loving woman with a heart full of compassion for others. Her professional life included her work at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center for 30 years. However, her true passion was helping others. She gave generously to many charities, including the Disabled American Veterans. She tirelessly advocated for children of abuse and neglect as a CASA volunteer for Boone County and through her volunteerism with Sunshine Children's Services.

Shirley's legacy of love and selflessness lives on through her family. She is survived by her husband of nearly 59 years, David Boone; her sons, David (Michelle) and Lonnie (Cassandra); her daughter, Sue; and her cherished grandchildren Logan, Madison and Saraya. She is also survived by her sisters Charlene, Barbara, Patty and Christine, and her brother David. Shirley was preceded in death by her mother Shirley Balser Mays Morgan, her father Charles Mays and her brothers, Charles Mays and Isaac Morgan.

Services held at First Baptist Church of Walton Saturday September 27, 2025. Visitation begins at 9:30am with a funeral service to follow at 10:30am.
