Obituary For Shirley Sue Hounshell
Shirley Sue Hounshell, 81, of Newport, KY, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 1, 2026. Shirley was born on December 10, 1944, in Breathitt County, Jackson, KY to her parents Frank and Emma (Watson) Miller.
She worked many years as a Nurse’s Assistant at the Baptist Convalescent Center in Newport, KY. She was a faithful member of the Full Gospel House of Refuge. Shirley loved being with her family and especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband of 58 years Letch Hounshell and twin girls Barbara and Brenda.
She will leave a loving legacy behind with her family, sons Reverend Eddie (Kristi) Hounshell Sr., Letch (Brenda) Hounshell Jr., Frank Hounshell; brothers Mackie (Kay) Miller, Frank (Mary)Miller and sister Connie Miller; 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren and her faithful loving pup Leroy.
Visitation will be held on Friday September 4, 2026, at Cooper Funeral Home from 5:00 pm – 8:00pm. Service will begin at 8:00pm with Rev. Eddie Hounshell Sr conducting the service, an additional visitation will be held at Deaton Funeral Home in Jackson, KY from 10:00 -12:00pm on Saturday September 5, 2026. Following the visitation, she will be laid to rest next to her husband Letch Hounshell at Gilbert Cemetery.
