Obituary For Sr. Georgianna Abplanalp
Sr. Georgianna Abplanalp (formerly Sr. Raymond Anthony) CDP died peacefully at Holy Family Home on June 2, 2026. She was a professed member of the Congregation of Divine Providence for 63 years. Born in Dayton, KY in 1943 to Raymond and Martha Stevens Abplanalp, she made her first profession of vows in 1963 and professed her final vows in 1968.
Sr. Georgianna began her ministry with teaching elementary students in 1964 at St. Agatha Academy in Winchester, KY. She was transferred to Takoma Park, MD in 1966 to Our Lady of Sorrows School until 1969. It was then that she began her long tenure at St. John School, Dry Ridge Road, Cincinnati, OH from 1969-1995. In 1994 she was asked to work in the finance office at St. Anne Convent; she continued that work until 2025, even though for years she also tutored at St. John’s School or served as an adjunct instructor in the Education Department at the College of Mount St. Joseph. She literally worked night and day, assisting with bookkeeping duties by day and teaching or tutoring students in the evenings.
Sr. Georgianna’s health was a factor in her need to move to Holy Family Home in 2008 for care, although her work in the finance office continued. She was available to the sisters who needed assistance with their community budgets; she was a listening ear to many of the Holy Family staff who confided in her. She was an anchor for her family and beloved by students and parishioners at St. John’s and at the dialysis center. Sr. Georgianna was always a cheerful and positive presence despite her own physical disabilities. She sponsored many family and Christmas gatherings at the convent and her limburger cheese parties were always well attended by the sisters.
She will be missed by her religious community, the Sisters of Divine Providence, her brother, Nicholas Abplanalp, her sister, Sandy Bryant, and numerous nieces and nephews. Her brothers, Ted and Bob preceded her in death.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Immaculate Conception Chapel, Holy Family Home, Melbourne on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. Gathering and sharing of memories service begins at 3:00, with the Mass of Resurrection at 4:00 followed by burial in the convent cemetery. Memorials to the Congregation of Divine Providence, 5300 Saint Anne Drive, Melbourne, KY 41059.
