Obituary For Stephen Daniel Vaughn

It is with a heavy heart and bittersweet emotion that we share the passing of our brother, Stephen Daniel Vaughn. Steve was surrounded by family at his bedside when he crossed over into God’s care on May 20, 2026 at Woodcrest Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Born on April 17, 1954, in Covington, KY, Steve was the son of Rev. Gerald Eugene “Gene” Vaughn and Phyllis Webb Vaughn. Steve was the brother of Mark Vaughn (Rhonda) and Rebecca “Becky” Stolz (Ron). He was uncle to Sarah Etheridge (Shelby), Matthew Vaughn, Trenton Stolz (Riley), Derrick Stolz (Emma) and great-uncle to Ruby, Lucy, Alayna, Carson, Bristol and one more on the way this year. Steve was welcomed into Heaven by his parents Gene and Phyllis as well as his brother, Jim Vaughn.

Raised in Richwood, KY, Steve graduated in 1972 from Boone County High School. Always good with numbers and his hands, he was a machinist by trade all of his working years. When Steve wasn’t in the tool and die shop, he reveled in being outdoors. He relished hunting and camping. A history buff, Steve studied the past for pure personal enjoyment, collecting interesting stories—particularly those stories about warfare and military history. Steve was a big voice in more ways than one. Outspoken and opinionated, he also loved to sing, especially if it was the music of gospel singer Guy Penrod.

Steve was cremated on May 21, 2026. Family will celebrate Steve’s life privately at a gathering soon. Though Steve’s earthly form may have gone from our sight, those who wish to remember his spirit can visit and sit within Richwood Presbyterian Cemetery, Richwood, KY.

We got to know Steve through church and enjoyed lively conversation with him. We will miss his presence sitting in the back keeping an eye on things. Bo and Joy
