Obituary For Stephen Neil Robinson

Stephen Neil Robinson, 83, of Dry Ridge, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026. He was born on April 25, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan.

Steve was a man of remarkable patience, wisdom, and dedication whose life’s passion centered around dogs and the people who loved them. As the owner of Common Scents Canine Center, he built a respected reputation as a skilled dog trainer, specializing in helping pet owners form lasting, rewarding relationships with their dogs. He also was heavily involved in the internationally recognized dog sport of IGP. Through his expertise, Steve mentored countless handlers and their dogs, leaving a lasting impact on the working dog community. His knowledge extended beyond the training field as he enjoyed writing articles about dogs and their behavior, generously sharing his insights to educate and inspire others.

Those who knew Steve will remember him for his calm demeanor, kind heart, and unwavering patience. He believed that trust, consistency, and understanding formed the foundation of every successful relationship—whether with a dog or another person. His gentle approach earned the respect and admiration of everyone fortunate enough to know him. Steve absolutely loved helping pet owners achieve the greatest possible success and bond with their dogs. Friends and clients always joked he was part dog, and I think they were right. He certainly left a lasting impression on a great many people, whether pet owners or fellow dog sport competitors.

Steve also found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. He and his beloved wife, Dianne, loved spending weekends exploring the scenic beauty of Kentucky with their cherished dogs, Solo, Bogey, and Lago. Those trips created treasured memories filled with quiet adventures, beautiful landscapes, and the companionship they all shared.

Steve leaves behind his wife Dianne Thies, brother Dan Robinson (Josefita Robinson), sister Dr. Lorie Robinson, brother-in-law Bill Thies (Paula Thies), father-in-law William Thies, mother-in-law Nancy Thies, several loving nieces and nephews, and his beloved dogs Bogey and Lago.

Memorial donations can be made in Stephens name to Ohio ALS or Spikes K9 Fund.
