Obituary For Stephen Richard Gerding
It is with tremendous sadness that we share the passing of Steve Gerding, 61, the beloved son of Judi and Gene Gerding, and the brother of the late Linda Grome (Tom), Scott Gerding (Laurie) and Jill Disken (Andy). Steve passed away on Wednesday, April 1, holding the hands of his brother and sister who released him into the arms of his sister Linda waiting to welcome him in heaven.
Steve was a die hard Cincinnati Reds fan, a passionate music lover, and a true trivia guru. Steve loved a good, strong hand shake and brought so much joy, humor and love to those around him. More than that, Steve was the heart behind something much bigger. At 18 months, Steve was diagnosed with Rubinstein-Taybi Syndrome. His journey became the catalyst for Judi’s mission to create a better more inclusive world, not only for him but for countless others. From that love and determination, The Point Arc was born.
Because of Steve, The Point Arc has grown into an organization that now serves more than 1400 individuals and families each year-providing opportunities, dignity, independence and community for people with intellectual developmental disabilities. He is, and always will be, at the root of everything The Point does.
While we mourn this tremendous loss, we also honor the incredible legacy Steve leaves behind. His life continues to inspire The Point’s mission and will live on through every life The Point touches.
Steve will be profoundly missed, but NEVER forgotten.
We ask that you keep Judi and Gene, Scott and Laurie, Jill and Andy and Tom Grome and Steve’s nieces and nephews- Brooke, Cole, Leah (Evan), Chad, Harris, Grant, Drue, Chase, Jordan and Ali and his great nephews, Luca and Beckham in your prayers.
Visitation will be held Monday April 6, 2026 4:00-6:15pm at Blessed Sacrament Church, Ft. Mitchell. A family eulogy will begin at 6:20 with mass of a Christian Burial at 6:30pm with a reception to follow in the undercroft.
The family asked for memorial donations instead of flowers for The Point’s NEW Advanced Care Home. Send to: The Point, 104 West Pike St., Covington, KY 41011.
