Obituary For Susan Morehouse
Susan Morehouse, age 78, of Union, Kentucky, formerly of Locke, New York, went to her heavenly home on December 5, 2025. She was the beloved daughter of the late Robert Cornwell and June (nee Raymond) Grobelny.
Susan is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Ben Morehouse, whom she first met in high school and began dating while working at the same restaurant. Their lifelong partnership was one built on love, dedication, and shared adventure.
A woman who deeply valued education, Susan, after finishing high school, attended night classes at Tompkins Cortland Community College to earn her Associate’s degree. After she and Ben moved to Northern Kentucky in 1984, she again pursued evening studies at Northern Kentucky University, proudly earning her Bachelor’s degree. She retired from Fifth Third Bank, where she served as the Manager of Corporate Recruiting, a role she approached with professionalism, compassion, and an unwavering work ethic.
Susan was a member of Immanuel Methodist Church in Lakeside Park and a woman of creativity, curiosity, and warmth. In her earlier years, she loved hiking, crafting, and creating beautiful flower arrangements. She enjoyed making bracelets and even sewed matching outfits for her children, Chris and Julie, when they were young. Susan had a well-known love of sweets—especially ice cream of any flavor. She also adored watching Walker, Texas Ranger, and was quite unhappy when her time in rehab meant she couldn’t watch her favorite show.
Susan’s most treasured moments were spent enjoying time with her children and grandchildren. She and Ben spent many cherished years as winter residents in Florida, where they loved spending time with their nieces and nephews and creating memories filled with laughter and sunshine These cherished moments also included visits to their hometown in NY, where family get-togethers overflowed with love and the best of times.
In addition to her husband, Susan is survived by her children, Chris (Tara) Morehouse and Julie (Mike) Gibson; her grandchildren, Corey (Torii), Mary, Rachel, Jackson, Michael, Charlie, John, Connor, and Charlee; and her siblings Donna (Gary) Harding, Kathy (Gary) Watrous, Elaine Schneider, John (Sara) Grobelny, Joe (Amy) Grobelny, Jill (Fred) Grobelny, Gary (Melissa) Oltz, MaryAnn Carmen, and Robert Cornwell. She is also survived by her brothers- and sisters-in-law Ken Morehouse, Ginger (Jeff) Allen, Donna Oltz, Dorla Morehouse, Cindy Morehouse, Colleen (Stu) Perkins, and Tom Gath; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Georgia Cornwell; her parents in-law Calvin and Marie Morehouse; her sister Connie Gath; her brother Don Oltz; brothers-in-law Jerry Schneider and Cal Morehouse; sisters-in-law Violet and Sandy Morehouse; and her niece Donna Donnangelo.
Honoring Susan’s wishes, she will be cremated and laid to rest in Groton Rural Cemetery in New York at a later date.
Memorial contributions are encouraged to the Moravia Summer Recreation Program, PO Box 642, Moravia, NY 13118, an organization close to her heart, or a charity of your choice.
