Obituary For Terry Lee Heil
Terry Lee Heil, 69, of Independence, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
Born on July 17, 1956, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Terry was the beloved son of the late Darwin and Mary Lou Fish. Over the years, he lived in several places before finding his forever home in Independence, Kentucky, where he built a life full of meaningful connections and treasured memories.
Terry worked for many years as a skilled carpenter, taking great pride in his craftsmanship. At the time of his passing, he was working at Speedy Wash Coin Laundry. He was a devoted outdoorsman who loved fishing and pheasant hunting, often sharing these passions with his father and brothers. Some of his fondest memories were fishing trips in the Black Hills with his dad, Mike, and Derrick. Terry and Derrick also cherished countless hours playing chess together.
A lover of music, Terry enjoyed rock music, Sunday drives to Rabbit Hash, Kentucky, to indulge in chocolate Moon Pies and glass bottles of Coke, and regular visits to IHOP, Log Cabin Inn, and PeeCox for breakfast and lunch. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, loyalty, and a heart so large it felt like he claimed an entire neighborhood as family.
In addition to his parents, Terry was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles and Ruth Petrie, and his brother, Mike Heil.
He is survived by his brother Derrick (Michelle) Fish; nephews Damian, Dante, Dawson, and Desmond Fish; niece Izzibella Fish; and a circle of close friends who were like family, including Bonnie Beck, Zachary, Joshua Beck, Bradley, Katelyn, Ava Ferrell, Charlie, Elaina, and Brooklyn Behrens. All of whom are so grateful to Terry for allowing hthem to share in his life.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.
