Obituary For Wanda Smiley

Wanda Smiley, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on August 17, 2026, in Edgewood, Kentucky. She was born on August 6, 1934.

Wanda shared 72 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Charles “Leck” Smiley. Together, they built a beautiful life centered around their family and the many memories they made along the way. Wanda and Leck enjoyed traveling to Nashville to listen to country music and spending the colder months in Dunnellon, Florida, where they enjoyed the warmth and time together.

Family was truly Wanda’s pride and joy. She loved raising her family alongside Leck and cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild. She gave generously of her time, her love, and herself, never expecting anything in return.

She worked for more than 30 years at Square D, where she served as the receptionist and phone operator. With her warm personality and unmistakable Southern accent, she became affectionately known as the “Voice of Square D,” a title that reflected the welcoming presence she brought to everyone who called or walked through the doors.

Wanda was also known for her delicious fried cornbread and homemade fudge, favorites of her family that will continue to bring back cherished memories of her for years to come. Her greatest legacy will be the love she gave so freely and the lives she touched through her kindness and generosity.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Lillian Phillippi; and her brothers, Don Phillippi, Gene Phillippi, Billy Phillippi and Rod Phillippi.

To cherish her memory, she leaves behind her devoted husband, Charles Smiley; her children, Rita (Mike) Kirby and Charlie (Paula) Smiley; her grandchildren, Casey Perry, Codey Perry, Shannon (Ryan) Back, Jeremy (Laura) Smiley, and Brooke Smiley; her siblings, Ann (Don) Thompson, Parker Phillippi, Sue Sutton, Margie (Kelly) Garner, and Kathy (Charles) Randolph; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild along with many other loving family members and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Burlington Baptist Church or Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
