Obituary For William "Rusty" Kordenbrock
William "Rusty" Kordenbrock, age 77, of Erlanger, Kentucky, passed away on June 4, 2026.
Rusty was born to the late William John "Jack" Kordenbrock and Judith (Ross) Kordenbrock. He lived a life defined by service, leadership, loyalty, and a deep love for his family and community.
For 56 wonderful years, Rusty shared a devoted marriage with his high school sweetheart and beloved wife, Cheryl (Riffle) Kordenbrock. Together they built a life centered on family, faith, and enduring love.
Rusty proudly served his country in the United States Air Force before embarking on a distinguished career in education. He retired from the Erlanger/Elsmere Schools, where he served as Principal and positively influenced generations of students, families, and educators. His commitment to education and mentorship left a lasting legacy throughout the community.
A man of strong faith, Rusty was a dedicated member of Grace Episcopal Church. He was also honored as a Kentucky Colonel, a recognition reflecting his commitment to service and the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Athletics played a significant role throughout Rusty's life. A gifted athlete, he was a proud member of the Lloyd Memorial High School 1965 Championship Football Team. His passion for sports continued well beyond his playing days as he served as Junior Varsity Coach for the Lloyd girls' basketball program, where he encouraged young athletes both on and off the court.
Outside of his professional and coaching careers, Rusty enjoyed life's simple pleasures. He was an avid reader, a lover of thoroughbred horses, and a motorcycle enthusiast who appreciated the freedom of the open road. Whether discussing a great book, cheering on a horse race, or reminiscing about sports, Rusty brought enthusiasm and warmth to every conversation.
In addition to his beloved wife, Cheryl, Rusty is survived by his sons, Brandon Kordenbrock and Tyler Kordenbrock; his granddaughter, Josie Kordenbrock; his sister, Cindy (Neal) Ahern; his brother, Matthew (Connie) Kordenbrock; and many extended family members, friends, former students, colleagues, and athletes whose lives were enriched by his guidance and friendship.
Rusty will be remembered for his integrity, his dedication to education, his love of sports, and the unwavering devotion he showed to his family. His legacy will continue through the countless lives he touched and the memories shared by those who knew and loved him.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 8461 Dixie Highway, Florence, Kentucky 41042. A memorial service will begin at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Erlanger/Elsmere Schools or Grace Episcopal Church.
