Obituary For Willie Eugene Fields
Willie Eugene "Gene" Fields, age 83, of Florence, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood, Kentucky.
Gene was born in Letcher County, Kentucky, on July 31, 1942, to the late Mae Elkins Fields and Bill Fields. He was a man of strong faith whose love for the Lord guided every aspect of his life. He faithfully served God, loved his family deeply, and was a devoted husband, father, papaw, brother, and friend.
Gene was also a proud coal miner who dedicated 41 years of his life to the coal industry before retiring. He took great pride in his work and in providing for his family.
He is survived by his daughters, Eugenia "Genia" Allen, Patricia (Luther) Sexton, and Ella Melissa "Missy" (Roger) Jones; grandchildren, Nick (Caitlan) Sexton and McKenzie Jones (fiancée Landon Willis); great-grandchildren, Lincoln Sexton and Penelope Sexton; sister, Alene Maggard; along with many other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Anna Ruth Sizemore Fields, whom he often referred to as the love of his life; twin granddaughters, Ashton Faith Allen and Lauren Hope Allen; and his sister, Patsy Boggs.
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 8, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Community Family Church, 11875 Taylor Mill Road, Independence, Kentucky 41051. A service celebrating Gene's life will begin at 7:00 PM.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Calvary Temple Church of God in Whitesburg, Kentucky. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM, with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 PM.
Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery in Ermine, Kentucky.
A faithful servant of God, a devoted family man, and a proud coal miner, Gene will be remembered for his unwavering faith, strong work ethic, and the love he showed to everyone around him. His memory will be treasured by all who knew and loved him.
