Obituary For Willie Gary Curry
Willie Gary Curry, known as “Gary,” "Uncle Gary," or even "Quack," passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 3, 2026, in Edgewood, Kentucky, at the age of 73.
Born on September 29, 1952, in Anniston, Alabama, Gary was the beloved son of Serowe and Mae Lizzie Curry, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his cherished sisters, Lois Curry and Mattie Curry, by his daughter, Kayla Roberson, and by his former wife Cassandra Roberts.
Gary leaves behind a family deeply shaped by his love, humor, generosity, and unwavering giving nature. He is survived by his children, Demetric Roberts and Yolanda Roberts; his siblings Daisy Barnes, Florene Moore, Tennie Love, Christine Bard (Donald Bard), Joseph Curry, and Christine Swain; along with a wide circle of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly. Among the nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart were Christine Brunt, Sybrina Moore, Constance Barnes-Watson (Patrick Watson), Stacy Curry, Ashley Love Elliott (Kevin A. Elliott), Quentin McClellan, Cedric Moore, Konecia Moore, Keshana Moore, Ricky Carr, Emani Watson, Kyra Dennis, and Kevin Douglas Love-Elliott.
To know Gary was to know someone who showed love through action. If something was broken, he would find a way to fix it. If someone needed help, he showed up — without hesitation, without conditions, and without asking or expecting anything in return. He was the kind of man who would give you the jacket off his back even if he didn't have a place of his own.
A gifted electrician and natural tinkerer, Gary could repair anything. In his own words, he could “fix anything from a broken tire to a broken heart.” Even though he cracked many jokes, he had deep knowledge of many things. He fixed a car with an egg and a lawnmower with a piece of tin foil. He understood how things worked — not just machines, but people too. Whether he was working on telephone poles, commercial buildings, a family member’s water heater, or someone’s car, he brought the same care, patience, and determination to every task. No matter how much time had passed, if Gary knew you and you needed him, he was there. No hesitation. No questions asked and nothing asked for in return.
Gary also carried a sense of humor that made people laugh long after the conversation ended. He would say things like, “This food tastes so good it’ll make your tongue beat your brains out,” and anyone who knew him knows just how serious he was about enjoying a good meal. He loved to eat, loved to laugh, and loved making people feel welcomed.
Though Alabama was his birthplace and original home, Gary moved to Kentucky around 2013 to help care for his mother. He saw Kentucky as another "home." After getting his license, he would go around and say “I am officially a Kentucky thoroughbred.”
Gary loved his family fiercely. He loved storytelling, helping others, and cracking many jokes The lightness, laughter, and steady love he brought into the lives of those around him cannot be replaced.
His absence leaves a space that words cannot fully fill, but his memory lives on in every story told, every act of kindness repeated in his honor, and every person fortunate enough to have been loved by him. Gary’s spirit was truly one of a kind — unforgettable, deeply treasured, and forever missed.
A Graveside Service will be held for Willie on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at Highland Cemetery, 2167 Dixie Highway, Fort Mitchell, KY 41017.
