Politicians do plenty of things to raise the ire of their constituents. It’s both rare and refreshing to see a Member of Congress take a principled stand, though, and when one does, he should be commended.
Our Congressional representative, Thomas Massie, recently had the opportunity to go along and get along in the House GOP Conference, when the time came to elect a Speaker. Instead, he made a tough choice: Consequences be damned, Congressman Massie said “no” to the status quo, and “no” to another two years of a Boehner speakership.
There may be negative consequences and petty reprisals from the GOP Ruling Class. No matter, Congressman Massie actually listened to his constituents and took a principled stand that’s all too rare today.
He showed honor and courage. He showed that he had our backs. And he should know that we’ve got his.
Sincerely,
Emily Shelton
