Boy Scout Troop 820 has a lot to celebrate: 50 years in scouting and its 50th Eagle Scout, Wiley Carr


Lakeside Park’s Boy Scout Troop 820 will hold a Court of Honor on Saturday to celebrate two big milestones: It’s 50th year in scouting and its 50th Eagle Scout in 50 years.

Wiley Nelson Carr III, son of Ana and Wiley Carr of Florence has earned the top rank in scouting, following a family tradition. His father also attained the rank of Eagle Scout at Troop 820.

“Ana and I are so proud of Wiley,” said the elder Carr. “He worked harden immersed himself in Troop 820 activities.”

Troop 820 is chartered by the Lakeside Presbyterian Church and serves boys between the ages of 10 and 18 in the surrounding community.

“We are intensely proud of our history and particularly proud of the 50 scouts who have attained the rank of Eagle Scout with Troop 820,” said Michael Kane, the Scoutmaster for Trop 820. “We have a very active troop that engages the boys in every aspect of scouting. Active troops produce Eagle Scouts, and we aim to assist every boy who comes to Troop 820 achieve the rank if he swilling to spend the time and effort it takes to do so.”

Carr will graduate from Covington Catholic High School in May and has been active in the academic club, band, theater, the Pro-Life Club, the National English Honor Society and the National Honor Society. He has narrowed his college sights to either Centre or Bellarmine College.

His Eagle project involved redesigning a pond in the courtyard of Tichenor Middle School into a Koi pond, at the request of the Tichenor Art Department and with the support of Children, Inc. Through the project, Carr taught art students about Zen culture and how to maintain an ornamental ecosystem.

“I would recommend Troop 820 to any Cub Scout who wants to cross over into Boy Scouts,” said Wiley. “Troop 820 has a great history. I am thankful for the opportunity it provided me to become an Eagle Scout.”

The Eagle Court of Honor and 50th Anniverary celebration will be held at the Lakeside Presbyterian Church, 2690 Dixie Highway at 7 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 7).
