Brewster Rhoads, founding executive director of Green Umbrella, the regional sustainability alliance, is stepping down from that position effective July 1.
Under Rhoads’ direction over the last four years, Green Umbrella has grown into a national leader in sustainability. He has led the creation of eight Action Teams, the launch of Taking Root and Regional Trails Alliance, fiscal sponsorship of Red Bike, creation of Greater Cincinnati Regional Food Policy Council, creation of MeetMeOutdoors.com and hosted numerous regional forums and sustainability summits.
Although he wants to spend a bit more time with his wife visiting his daughters overseas and paddling his kayak in the Ohio River, he remains deeply committed to the mission of Green Umbrella and plans to stay involved to ensure continuity and continued growth. In particular, he intends to help with Green Umbrella’s two signature events: PaddleFest and Great Outdoor Weekend.
“Being director of Green Umbrella for the past four years has been the best job I ever had. Nothing beats working with dedicated colleagues to make measurable improvements in our region’s land, air and water,” Rhoads said.
According to Green Umbrella Board Chair Scott Hassell, “Brewster has been absolutely critical to the unprecedented collaboration of businesses, non-profits, local governments, and educational institutions united around a common agenda and measurable goals to make our entire region one of the most green and sustainable metro areas in the country. The Board of Trustees is so pleased Brewster’s entrepreneurial spirit, infectious camaraderie, strategic insight, and high-octane energy will still be available to help Green Umbrella achieve its ambitious mission.”
The Green Umbrella Board of Trustees has launched a national search for his replacement. For more information on the organization, the detailed job description for executive director, and instructions how to apply, go to www.GreenUmbrella.org.
